Things I won't do again in 2007

My major issue with life-changing is it's so permanent. I think that's why so many of us never really make changes. It feels too daunting when you can never do ________ again. So why bother trying. In that spirit, I'm just not going to do these things for the next 13 days. Then I'll re-evaluate/all bets are off.

I guess that's where AA came up with the whole "One Day at a Time" thing.

So in that spirit, here some unhealthy things I will not be doing again. At least in 2007. So begins mini-willpower:
- party smoking
- drinking whiskey
- telling a lie
- backing out on a commitment
- missing a personal deadline.

More later. I hope proclaiming this into the ether will help keep me a bit more honest. But if a vow goes on the internet and there's no one else to read it... nevermind.

weekly experiment 1: garbage media hunger strike

I'm going to begin with an absolute softball.

I, like many of our modern times, have become a regular follower of celebrity sludge.

It started innocently, with an US weekly in the airport. Soon, I was visiting dlisted and hollywoodrag at LEAST once a day, with egotastic and serveral others (however, I am perez-intolerant).

it's become anywhere from a pleasant diversion/workbreak to a dangerously escalating procastination fetish. This depends upon my mood, geographical location, procrastination requirements and, of course, wifi status.

for the next week, I will consume no garbage media. instead, my work breaks will be good, treehugger and other sites.

reporting in...

I mean well

Really I do.

I chase a night out with a morning-after handfull of liver detox pills (vegan, of course).

I buy organic potato chips.

I am on a first-name basis with Deepak, Rodney, Baron... and the bartender at Lyle's.

I'm hoping that by sharing my struggles to be a little more conscious--at least on weekdays--I will do better. Or at least find a kinship with likeminded, inconsistently willed people out there who know better even if we don't always do it.

I will experiment, report back, try. Even if Yoda says it doesn't count.

The journey begins with a single stumble.

I'll hold your hair up.
